Jamdani : Woven Poetry

Technique

Jamdani is the art of patience, where coloured threads dance through warp and weft by hand, creating intricate patterns, making it incredibly time-consuming. This supplementary weft technique is slow magic - weavers progress just a few centimetres daily, their fingers telling stories in thread. Each design requires meticulous counting of threads, deciding which thread goes up and which comes down, effectively performing embroidery on the loom. From yarn selection to starching, dyeing, drumming, reeling, warp setting to the final beat of the loom, a simple 50-metre design demands up to 70 days of unrelenting craftsmanship.

Adaptation

At Weavers Studio, we draw inspiration from our archives of historical textiles and infuse a contemporary touch into our fabrics. Through thoughtful placement of patterns, we create designs that are unique and playful. Each piece becomes a living tapestry with motifs woven with modern sensibilities. These fabrics are floating gardens of creativity, where the yarn, tradition, and the weaver's spirit blend into a tangible story.
